The Forge Burns Bright
For the past few weeks, the work inside the Forge42Engine has been steady and relentless. The original goal was to release multi-party battles and let the brave adventurers of Tharendell begin testing them in the wild.
And for a brief moment… they worked.
But as any good blacksmith knows, sometimes when a blade first leaves the anvil you realize it still needs more shaping before it is ready for battle. Once the multi-party fights were running, it became clear that the combat system itself needed a few more pieces before these battles could truly shine.
So rather than rushing it out into the world half-forged, the decision was made to return to the Forge and finish the work properly.
When the next update arrives, it will be one of the largest changes Tharendell has seen so far.
Here are the new powers being forged.
⚔️ Multi-Party Battles
Adventurers will finally be able to fight together.
Battles will support up to six heroes fighting side-by-side, with experience and gold distributed properly across the party. No longer will heroes face the dangers of the wilds alone — they will stand together against the monsters of the realm.
📜 Character Leveling
Several of the early adventurers exploring Tharendell have already earned enough glory to reach Level 2, so the time has come for heroes to grow stronger.
The leveling system has now been forged into the engine. As heroes advance, they will become more capable in battle — and at key milestones (Levels 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20) they will gain the opportunity to permanently strengthen one of their abilities.
The legends of Tharendell will not remain novices forever.
🏹 Party Range Formation
A new tactical layer now exists on the battlefield.
Parties can now define their range order, allowing warriors and shield-bearers to stand on the front line while archers and ranged fighters remain safely behind them.
This change finally brings bows and ranged weapons fully into the fight, allowing Rangers and other ranged heroes to battle the way they were meant to.
🔥 A Stronger Battle Engine
Perhaps the most important change of all is hidden beneath the surface.
The earliest battles in Tharendell were powered by a simple combat system — a prototype that served its purpose while the world was still young. But as the realm grows, the Forge must evolve with it.
So the combat logic has been torn out and rebuilt as a proper battle engine, forged piece by piece into separate systems responsible for things like:
• attack resolution
• positioning and battlefield range
• target selection
• encounter orchestration
This new foundation will allow the Forge to support far more complex combat in the future — including advanced monster behaviors, spells, and richer tactical encounters.
With Spring Break now underway, the plan is to finish shaping this new battle engine over the next few days.
After that, the Tharendell interface will be updated so players can access all of these new features.
And then…
The gates will open once again, and the alpha testers will return to the battlefield to see if the Forge has made them strong enough to survive what lies ahead.
