The forge fires burn late these days.

While the scholars of distant academies debate the nature of great machines and arcane calculations, the builders of Forge42 continue their quiet work beneath the surface of Tharendell.

Recent weeks have been filled with both study and reflection. The Keeper of the Forge took a brief retreat into the deep woods, where the world slows and the only sounds are wind through the trees and creatures of the wild. Two red foxes were seen playing near the clearing — a rare and welcome sight, and perhaps a small blessing from the spirits of the forest.

But rest never lasts long when the forge calls.

Work has now begun on the next great advancement within the Forge42 battle engine: the ability for multiple adventurers to fight together in the same battle.

Until now, the earliest trials of combat have been conducted with a single hero facing the dangers of the world alone. These tests were necessary to temper the steel of the system and ensure the combat mechanics held strong.

But Tharendell is not a world meant to be faced alone.

With the latest changes now entering the testing grounds, multiple heroes may now stand together against their foes. Early trials show the system holding firm:

  • Rewards are divided fairly among companions
  • Gold discovered in battle remains properly accounted for
  • Combat flows smoothly as multiple heroes take their turns

Even Alistair the Bard, whose voice carries the stories of battle across the realm, has begun weaving these larger encounters into his narration. Though a few names of creatures still require refinement, the stories are already becoming richer.

The next stage of the forge will introduce party formations, allowing adventurers to stand in tactical ranks:

  • Warriors and shield-bearers forming the front line
  • Archers and ranged fighters standing behind them
  • Mages and spellcasters protected in the rear

As ranged weapons and arcane powers begin to emerge within the system, these formations will become critical to survival.

Much remains to be done before these systems are fully ready for the adventurers of Tharendell.

But progress continues.

And the forge burns brighter with each passing night.
